Richard Saint-Ford
Richard Saint-Ford is a British self-taught perfumer and the founder, creative director and sole nose of Iggywoo, the house he started in Los Angeles in 2024. He has composed every fragrance in the line.
He came to perfumery sideways. Before Iggywoo he spent the better part of two decades in fashion and beauty, working as a creative and marketing brand director and later as a CMO, with work associated with Gucci, Tom Ford, Diesel and Nike. He has no conservatory training and no training house behind him, which he treats as the point rather than a gap — the brand describes him as working instinctively, without inherited rules, and the press has taken to calling him the heretic perfumer.
The house name comes from his grandmother. Raised between the Caribbean, California and Europe and brought up largely by her, he grew up around a woman who made scents from the plants around her and baked for a living; iggywoo was a childhood word the two of them used for imagination. He stepped away from his career for a year after her death and started the house on his own money so that nobody else held the creative decisions.
His working method starts with mood boards, music and imagined landscapes rather than with materials, and it shows in the results: a pistachio built on jasmine and sandalwood instead of sugar, a cherry pushed behind clove and pink pepper, a vanilla that avoids the bakery entirely. All eight of his compositions to date are for Iggywoo; he has not worked for another house.
