Liquides Imaginaires Blanche Bête Eau de Parfum
Description
What it smells like
Liquides Imaginaires Blanche Bête is a floral-woody-musk eau de parfum built on milk, which is a harder trick than it sounds — lactonic accords curdle into cloying sweetness very easily. It opens on ambrette seed, a milk accord and Mystikal: the ambrette is a vegetal musk, warm and faintly skin-like, and against the milk it reads as warm bare skin rather than dessert. There is no citrus and no sparkle; the fragrance starts soft and stays soft.
The heart is where it earns its reputation. Vintage jasmine and tuberose petals arrive together — a full white-floral chord that in most hands would dominate everything — but Mahonial adds a green, dewy lily transparency and, crucially, incense runs underneath. That thread of smoke is the single decision that makes the composition work: it dries the flowers out and stops the milk turning syrupy.
The base is tonka, cacao and a musky vanilla. The cacao is unsweetened and dusty rather than chocolatey, the tonka brings almond and hay, and the vanilla is powdery rather than gourmand. Expect seven to nine hours with moderate projection — this is a close-wearing fragrance by design, the kind people notice when they are already standing near you. The house frames it around a mythical white creature in an enchanted garden, and the opaline, slightly otherworldly quality of the drydown is the part that earns the image.
Who made it
Blanche Bête was composed by Louise Turner, a perfumer at Givaudan, and released in 2021. The brand itself credits no nose on its site; the attribution comes from Fragrantica and Parfumo independently.
Her handling of the milk-and-white-floral problem is the reason to pay attention: three ideas — lactonic, floral, vanillic — held in balance rather than one being allowed to win.
Who it's for
This is for people who like skin scents with something strange in them. If you wear lactonic or milky fragrances and find most of them either babyish or sugary, Blanche Bête is the grown-up version, and the incense is what makes the difference. It also suits anyone who likes big white florals but wants them softened rather than amplified.
Within the house it belongs to the Eaux de Peau idea — fragrances built around skin — and it is the gentlest, most wearable thing Liquides Imaginaires makes; the Eaux Sanguines and Eaux de l'Âme trilogies are considerably more confrontational. It is unisex, though the creamy florals give it a feminine lean in practice. If you want projection, freshness or anything sharp, this is the wrong bottle.
When to wear it
Blanche Bête is at its best in autumn and winter and leans towards evening, though the softness means it never feels overdressed in daylight. Cold air suits the milk and tonka; in real heat the lactonic accord can turn heavy, so treat summer as a one-spray proposition. It works for evenings out, dates, romantic evenings and cold-weather days when you want something enveloping and quiet.
Two to three sprays. Because it sits close to the skin, a slightly generous hand is rewarded rather than punished — and it is well suited to close quarters where a louder fragrance would not be.
About the house
Liquides Imaginaires is a Paris house founded in 2012 by Philippe Di Méo and David Frossard, releasing its fragrances in trilogies — three scents conceived as three chapters of the same book — rather than one at a time. The story comes first: Di Méo briefs perfumers with legends and narratives, and the oil is developed to translate them. Every bottle carries an amphora-shaped cap, after the vessel used in antiquity for the most precious essences, and the house calls each creation a talisman. Blanche Bête Eau de Parfum is available at Redolia Perfumery as a full 100 ml bottle.
Fragrance Notes
What's the difference between accords and notes?
Accords are the overall scent families a fragrance gives off — its character at a glance. Notes are the individual ingredients you smell as it develops, from the first spritz (top) to the lasting dry-down (base).
