Pernoire Oudian Extrait de Parfum

What it smells like

Pernoire Oudian is a bold amber woody fragrance that pairs two famously intense materials: durian and oud. It opens with a durian accord, rich and ripe with a creamy tropical fruitiness, supported by other tropical fruits that make the opening surprisingly juicy. Saffron adds a warm, leathery-spicy glow, and Sichuan pepper brings a bright, lemony, tingling sparkle that cuts through the density.

The heart turns darker and more resinous. Cistus labdanum, the sticky resin of the rockrose shrub, gives a warm amber depth with a slightly leathery edge, and olibanum, or frankincense, adds smoke and a cool, peppery lift. Here the fruit begins to recede and the composition takes on a more commanding, incense-tinged character.

The base is built on oud, leather and vetiver. Oud gives the fragrance its dark, woody, slightly animalic core; leather adds texture and warmth; and vetiver finishes with an earthy, smoky dryness. The overall impression is powerful, fruity-dark and long-lasting. As an extrait de parfum from Pernoire's Odus line, made at 30% concentration, Oudian projects strongly and lasts for many hours, so a light hand is recommended.

Who made it

Oudian was composed by Andreas Wilhelm, the Swiss perfumer credited on every fragrance in Pernoire's current range. Wilhelm started in perfumery at Givaudan, trained at Luzi, and founded his own studio, Wilhelm Perfume, in Zurich in 2008. For Pernoire he works directly with founders Robin Dünner and Nico Mannino.

Oudian's story is about dominance and presence, claimed through strength rather than granted. Its name is short for oud and durian, and its bottle carries a chess king symbol. Oudian was released in 2025.

It is less suited to hot summer days or close office environments, where its projection may be too strong. On cool evenings, though, it creates a memorable, confident presence.

Pernoire is an independent Swiss niche perfume house founded in Basel in 2020 by childhood friends Robin Dünner and Nico Mannino.
