The Iggywoo Discovery Set: A Guide to All Six Fragrances

The Iggywoo Discovery Set: A Guide to All Six Fragrances

The Iggywoo Discovery Set is the house's own boxed sampler — six 2 ml sprays covering the entire current range, all composed by founder Richard Saint-Ford — and it is the sensible way into a brand whose six fragrances sit a long way apart from one another.

What it smells like

Six quite different things, which is the point. Pistachio Voodoo Child is a white-floral pistachio: the nut treated as a green, milky material and wrapped in lily, jasmine and sandalwood rather than in sugar. Lost In Vanillatopia is the house's newest and best-rated scent, a vanilla that behaves like a skin musk, opening on damask rose and grapefruit before settling into amber, tonka and musk.

Cashmere Show Pony is dry coconut husk and passion flower over cashmere wood and white musk — sheer, close to the skin, and the most-reviewed thing the house makes. Bohemian Water goes the other way entirely: a salty Californian citrus of lemon, bergamot and caviar lime over neroli, orchid and a genuinely good mineral salt note.

Fantasma Overglow is a sparkling bitter citrus held in place by cedar, frankincense and amber, which gives it far more staying power than a citrus usually has. And Cherry Love Extreme is the darkest of the six, pushing cherry behind clove, pink pepper, rose and a heavy patchouli base.

Between them the set covers citrus, gourmand, floral, musk and spice. It is a genuine cross-section rather than six variations on a house accord, which is unusual in a discovery set and makes this one more useful than most.

Who it's for

Anyone considering a full bottle and sensibly unwilling to commit at this price without trying first. Two millilitres is enough for several complete wearings, which is what you actually need — these fragrances change character substantially between the opening and the drydown, and a paper strip will tell you almost nothing about where they end up.

It also makes a straightforward gift for someone whose taste you do not know precisely, because the range is broad enough that most people find at least one they want to own.

A practical approach: wear one per day across a week, on skin rather than card, and note which ones you find yourself thinking about afterwards. The vials are sprays rather than dabbers, so they apply the way a full bottle will. Worth saying plainly — this is the brand's own factory-sealed set, not decants assembled by a retailer.

If you would rather smell it than read about it, it is on the scent bar at our Somerville boutique — come in and try it on skin before you commit.
