What it smells like

Pernoire Tierra is a warm woody spicy fragrance with a short, focused pyramid built on rum, red berries, vanilla, spice and oud. It opens with aged rum, which gives a rich, boozy warmth with hints of molasses and oak, paired with red berries for a juicy, slightly tart fruitiness. The opening is lively and inviting, like a celebratory drink.

In the heart, vanilla adds a smooth, creamy sweetness, a blend the house calls Colombian spices brings warmth and depth, and benzoin contributes a soft, balsamic, vanilla-like resin. The combination feels comforting and sunny, balancing sweetness with gentle spice.

The base is pure oud, which gives the fragrance a darker, woody foundation. Against the rum, berries and vanilla, the oud reads as warm and slightly smoky rather than harsh, adding structure and a sense of depth to the drydown. Because the pyramid is compact, each note stays clearly readable throughout the wear. As an extrait de parfum from Pernoire's Anima line, made at 25% concentration, Tierra lasts for many hours.

Who made it

Tierra was composed by Andreas Wilhelm, the Swiss perfumer credited on every fragrance in Pernoire's current range. Wilhelm trained at Givaudan and Luzi, founded his own studio, Wilhelm Perfume, in Zurich in 2008, and develops Pernoire's fragrances with founders Robin Dünner and Nico Mannino.

Tierra was released in 2021. It was created to capture the joy, passion and warmth of South American people. Tierra means earth in Spanish, but the house uses it to mean home: a place of origin, comfort and happiness. The sun symbol on its bottle stands for positivity and vitality.
