Description
What It Smells Like
Parfums de Marly Athénaïs is an orange blossom fragrance with a bright citrus opening and a warm vanilla base. Launched in 2026, it is the house's newest feminine, and it sits between the fresh cleanliness of Valaya and the sweetness of Delina Exclusif.
The top is neroli, bergamot and yuzu. Neroli is the oil distilled from orange blossom, green and slightly bitter; yuzu is a Japanese citrus with a sharper, more aromatic zest than lemon. Together they make the opening sparkle.
The heart is orange blossom and jasmine sambac, a richer and slightly fruity jasmine, with Mahonial, a modern molecule that smells of lily of the valley and adds a clean radiance. The flowers are creamy without becoming heavy.
The base is vanilla, tonka bean and amber, which gives the white flowers a soft, sweet, slightly powdery finish. Fragrantica's community ranks white floral as the leading accord, followed by citrus, vanilla and sweet, and rates it 3.86 out of 5 from about 950 votes so far. According to Fragrantica, the name refers to Athénaïs de Montespan, the celebrated favourite of Louis XIV.
Who Made It
Parfums de Marly has not publicly named a perfumer for Athénaïs, and neither Fragrantica nor Parfumo lists one. We would rather leave the credit open than guess. What can be said is that it follows the house method: a brief built around one clear idea, executed with the richness and staying power the range is known for.
Who It's For
Athénaïs is for people who love orange blossom and want it bright and joyful rather than soapy or indolic. Fragrantica lists it as a feminine.
If you wear Valaya and want more warmth and sweetness, or wear Delina and want flowers without the fruit, this is the one to try. If you dislike white florals in general, it will not change your mind. It is cheerful, polished and very easy to like.
When to Wear It
Fragrantica voters place it in spring and summer by a wide margin, with day almost four times ahead of night. Citrus and white flowers belong to warm, bright days.
Wear it for daytime events, weddings, holidays and sunny weekends. The vanilla base gives it enough body for a summer evening, though it is not a cold-weather perfume.
About the House
Parfums de Marly was founded in Paris in 2009 by Julien Sprecher. The house takes its name and its imagery from the royal château of Marly and from the perfumed court of Louis XV, an era when fragrance was worn lavishly and horse racing was a royal passion. That is why every bottle carries a crest of two rearing horses, and why several of the fragrances, Herod, Godolphin and Darley among them, are named after celebrated horses.
The style is generous and easy to like: rich, long-wearing compositions, each built around one clear idea and usually signed by a well-known perfumer. Parfums de Marly is a boutique-only house at Redolia. It is sold at our perfumery at 92 West Main Street in Somerville, New Jersey, and not through the website. Fragrance Notes
What's the difference between accords and notes?
Accords are the overall scent families a fragrance gives off — its character at a glance. Notes are the individual ingredients you smell as it develops, from the first spritz (top) to the lasting dry-down (base).
