Ramon Monegal

Ramon Monegal is a Barcelona perfume house run by the fourth generation of what The Perfume Society calls Spain's most important family of perfumers. The line begins in 1916, when a drugstore opened by Ramon's great-grandfather, Esteve Monegal i Prat, grew into Myrurgia — the Barcelona house that went on to supply the Spanish Royal Household. Ramon joined the family company in 1972 and trained under Artur Jordi Pey at Firmenich in Geneva, Marcel Carles in Grasse and Pierre Bourdon in Paris, then spent some thirty years as Myrurgia's in-house perfumer, creating his first success, Alada, in 1979, and later composing for Adolfo Domínguez, Antonio Miró and Massimo Dutti.

When Myrurgia was sold in 2000 he stepped away from corporate perfumery altogether and began working for himself, launching the eponymous house later that decade. He still formulates and produces in Barcelona, which is unusual at this scale and is the reason the collection has no house style imposed from outside — every bottle is one person's decision.

Literature is his stated inspiration after nature: he describes turning words into notes, phrases into chords and stories into compositions. That is why the entire catalogue lives in a single flacon, the faceted inkwell, with his monogram embossed on the flip-top cap — one vessel holding a material that can become any story. The range runs from classical Mediterranean colognes such as Heritage Drops, built on the family's private 1919 formula, through the Spanish collection and its skin-warm Matador, to the two-oud extraits Soul of Oud and Oud on Fire, and on to Katharsis, the 2026 collaboration with the artist Miguel Caravaca.
