Description
What it smells like
Electric Wood Extrait is a vanilla fragrance with moss and spice in it, and it is far drier than that description suggests. The note list is unusually short — nutmeg over oakmoss over vanilla — and the composition is better for it, because each material gets room.
Nutmeg opens it, warm and slightly dusty, with a fresh-spicy lift that stops the vanilla taking over immediately. Oakmoss in the heart is the element that makes this interesting: earthy, green and faintly bitter, it gives the fragrance a damp, forest-floor quality that works against the sweetness rather than with it.
The vanilla underneath is powdery rather than gourmand — closer to vanilla absolute than to custard. The community accords confirm the balance: vanilla leads at full weight, then fresh spicy, mossy, powdery and earthy. There is no bakery register here at all.
This is the extrait concentration, and it matters. The fragrance is the reworking of Electric Wood, the house's very first scent, released for its tenth anniversary in 2025 — the original was born from Dr. Mike's first Gibson guitar, and the extrait is the house returning to where it started. The silver cap distinguishes the extraits from the black-capped eaux de parfum.
Who made it
Composed by Jérôme di Marino, a French perfumer at Mane who trained through Givaudan and Takasago, the latter under Francis Kurkdjian, and who has since composed Kenzo World Power, Burberry Her Elixir de Parfum and Mr. Burberry Element. He is the nose behind most of the current Room 1015 line, and his particular skill is putting a difficult material at the centre of a composition and making it wearable rather than making it a joke.
You can see the other fragrances he composed for the house, and for others, on the Jérôme di Marino collection page.
Who it's for
For people who want a vanilla that behaves like a woody fragrance. If most vanillas read as too sweet or too edible, the oakmoss here solves exactly that problem.
It also suits anyone who misses proper mossy chypre-adjacent structures, which have become rare. Within the line this is the warmest and most classical thing the house makes — Wasabi Klub and Wavechild are its opposites.
Unisex, and the extrait concentration means it is also the longest-lasting fragrance Room 1015 offers.
When to wear it
Cold weather, overwhelmingly. The oakmoss and vanilla both gain from cool air, and the extrait concentration carries well on a coat.
Evening and special occasions, though it is restrained enough to wear every day if you like. It is a good dinner fragrance: warm, close and not loud. Expect it to last the whole day and into the next morning on fabric.
About the house
Room 1015 is a Parisian niche house founded in 2015 by Michael Partouche — Dr. Mike — a trained pharmacist who spent five years in London touring with his band before deciding that fragrance was the one discipline that could hold both halves of his life. The name is a hotel room number: 1015 of the Continental Hyatt House on Sunset Strip, the "Riot House", where touring bands took their after-parties in the 1970s.
The house calls what it does olfactory counterculture, and every fragrance starts from a specific cultural reference rather than from a material. The bottle is the same throughout — heavy coloured glass sized for the palm, under a faceted cap cut like a dark gem, black for the eaux de parfum and silver for the extraits. Electric Wood was the house's first fragrance, and this extrait is its tenth-anniversary reworking. See the rest of the line in the Room 1015 collection at Redolia.
Fragrance Notes
What's the difference between accords and notes?
Accords are the overall scent families a fragrance gives off — its character at a glance. Notes are the individual ingredients you smell as it develops, from the first spritz (top) to the lasting dry-down (base).
