What it smells like

Pernoire Vitias is a fresh aromatic aquatic fragrance with a spicy citrus opening and a salty, skin-like finish. It begins with bergamot and lime, bright and zesty, then quickly adds pink pepper and black pepper. Pink pepper brings a light, rosy sparkle, while black pepper adds a drier, sharper bite. The result is a citrus opening with real energy and a slightly spicy edge.

In the heart, Vitias becomes more textured. Angelica root adds a green, earthy, slightly musky aromatic note, iris contributes a cool, powdery elegance, and blond woods and guaiac wood give a smooth, lightly smoky woodiness. Marine notes run through the centre, suggesting sea spray and wet stone rather than a synthetic, overly sweet aquatic.

The base is simple and sensual: ambergris and white musk. Ambergris notes give a warm, salty, mineral glow, like sun-warmed skin after a swim, while white musk adds clean softness. The finish is fresh but intimate. As an extrait de parfum from Pernoire's Anima line, made at 25% concentration, Vitias lasts considerably longer than most aquatic fragrances.

Who made it

Vitias was composed by Andreas Wilhelm, the Swiss perfumer credited on every fragrance in Pernoire's current range. Wilhelm trained at Givaudan and Luzi before founding his own Zurich studio, Wilhelm Perfume, in 2008, and develops each Pernoire scent together with founders Robin Dünner and Nico Mannino.

Vitias is one of the house's earliest fragrances, released in 2021. Its story is a first kiss at the beach and the beginning of a deep connection. The house takes the name from what it calls the Vitias Depth, the deepest point in the ocean, as a metaphor for longing for a deeper bond, and a seashell symbol on the bottle evokes a Mediterranean mood.

Vitias is for people who love fresh, marine or citrus fragrances but find many aquatics too thin or too short-lived. The pepper, iris and ambergris give it more sophistication than a typical sport scent. It is unisex and works well for anyone who wants a clean, attractive signature with a romantic, summery feel.
