Description
What it smells like
Pernoire Anelo is a bright, juicy fruity chypre that opens with the smell of freshly sliced pineapple. That first impression is sweet but sharp, with the slightly tangy, almost fizzy edge of ripe fruit just cut open. Pomelo, the large, pale cousin of grapefruit, adds a clean, bittersweet citrus lift, while mandarin rounds it off with a softer, sunnier orange tone. Together they make the opening feel lively and mouth-watering without becoming sugary.
As the citrus settles, the heart moves further into the tropics. Mango brings a lush, creamy fruitiness, ginger adds a gentle peppery warmth that keeps the fruit from turning syrupy, and magnolia contributes a smooth, slightly lemony floral note. This is where Anelo feels most generous: fruit-forward, but with a clear sense of structure.
The base is where the chypre character appears. Dry amber gives warmth without heavy sweetness, vetiver adds a green, earthy, slightly smoky dryness, and patchouli supplies depth and a woody-earthy backbone. That dry, grounded finish is what separates Anelo from simple tropical fruit scents: the pineapple stays recognisable for a long time, but it sits on a base that feels polished and adult. As an extrait de parfum from Pernoire's Odus line, made at 30% concentration, it is designed for strong longevity and a noticeable trail.
Who made it
Anelo was composed by Andreas Wilhelm, the Zurich-based Swiss perfumer credited on every fragrance in Pernoire's current range. Wilhelm began his career in 1993 at Givaudan, trained as a perfumer at Luzi, and in 2008 founded his own studio, Wilhelm Perfume. He develops each Pernoire fragrance together with the house's founders, turning a story or feeling into a formula through repeated rounds of refinement.
The story behind Anelo is about sailors setting out to explore the globe and the aromas of distant lands they encounter. Its name is a compressed clue to its main notes: Anelo stands for pineapple and pomelo. Released in 2025, it has become one of the house's best-known fragrances.
Who it’s for
Anelo suits anyone who loves fruity fragrances but wants more depth than a light summer splash. If you enjoy pineapple-led scents or fresh fruity chypres, and you like a fragrance that is cheerful yet confident, it is an easy recommendation. The dry vetiver and patchouli base keeps it firmly unisex, so it works equally well for men and women.
It is also a good choice for people new to niche perfumery. The opening is immediately likeable and easy to understand, while the drydown offers enough texture to reward closer attention. If you usually wear designer fruity-woody scents and want to try something more concentrated and characterful, Anelo is a natural step.
When to wear it
With its tropical fruit and bright citrus, Anelo is at its best in spring and summer, on warm days and in sunny weather. It works well for daytime wear, weekends, travel and holidays, and its clean, polished base also makes it suitable for the office if you apply it lightly. Because it is an extrait, one or two sprays are usually enough.
In cooler months, Anelo can still bring a sense of brightness, especially in heated indoor spaces, but lighter application is wise. For evenings, its fruity warmth fits relaxed dinners and social occasions rather than very formal events.
About the house
Pernoire is an independent Swiss niche perfume house founded in Basel in 2020 by childhood friends Robin Dünner and Nico Mannino. Its central idea is that a fragrance should express a personality, so every scent begins with a character or a story and carries a symbol on its bottle; Anelo's is a compass. All Pernoire fragrances are unisex extraits de parfum in 50 ml flacons. The white-bottled Odus line, to which Anelo belongs, is made at 30% concentration, while the black-bottled Anima line is made at 25%. Pernoire Anelo Extrait de Parfum is available at Redolia Perfumery as a full 50 ml bottle.
Fragrance Notes
What's the difference between accords and notes?
Accords are the overall scent families a fragrance gives off — its character at a glance. Notes are the individual ingredients you smell as it develops, from the first spritz (top) to the lasting dry-down (base).
