Description
What it smells like
D'ORSAY Flower Lust is a floral-ambery Extrait de Parfum that opens with heat rather than sweetness. Pink pepper and black pepper come first, together creating a genuinely spicy, crackling start: the pink pepper rosy and bright, the black pepper dry and sharp. It is an unusual way into a white-floral perfume, and it sets the tone for everything that follows.
The heart is orange blossom and ylang-ylang. Orange blossom is honeyed and slightly green; ylang-ylang is creamy, banana-like and lush, one of the most opulent flowers in perfumery. Against the pepper they read as sensual rather than pretty, full-bodied and warm.
The base is deliberately dense: benzoin and tonka bean for balsamic, almond-sweet warmth, sandalwood for creamy wood, patchouli for earth and vetiver for a dry, smoky finish. Concentrated above 30%, Flower Lust projects strongly at first and settles into a rich, resinous floral that lasts all day. It is the most opulent fragrance in this D'ORSAY selection.
Who made it
Flower Lust was composed by Dominique Ropion, one of the most respected master perfumers in the industry and an IFF veteran. Ropion is known for compositions that are technically exacting and emotionally bold, and for white florals in particular, a genre he has shaped over decades. He also composed Sur Tes Lèvres. E.Q. for D'ORSAY, a far quieter fragrance, which shows his range.
Released in 2024, the house presents Flower Lust as an elixir of love for those who revel in excess, with red and black pepper creating tension against dense sandalwood.
Who it’s for
This is for people who love big white florals and are not looking for restraint. If you enjoy ylang-ylang, orange blossom or spicy florals, and you want a fragrance with real projection, it delivers. It is unisex, and the pepper and vetiver give it enough edge to avoid any sense of a conventional floral.
Anyone who prefers quiet, skin-close scents should choose Sur Tes Lèvres instead, which comes from the same perfumer at the opposite volume.
When to wear it
Flower Lust suits autumn, winter and cool evenings, and it is made for occasions: dinners, parties, celebrations and nights out where a strong fragrance is welcome.
Apply sparingly, especially indoors, since the extrait concentration carries. In warm weather the ylang-ylang and benzoin can become overwhelming, so it is best kept for cooler conditions or the evening.
About the house
D'ORSAY is a Parisian perfume house founded on an 1830 story: Count Alfred d'Orsay, dandy and artist, composed a fragrance as a tribute to his love for Marguerite, Countess of Blessington, and it is remembered as one of the first worn by women and men alike. Every D'ORSAY fragrance today is unisex. Alongside the Eaux de Parfum, which carry a person's initials in their names, the house produces a line of Extraits de Parfum concentrated above 30%: bolder, longer-lasting single ideas such as Tonka Hysteria, Rose Blaze, Holy Berry and Flower Lust. Fragrances are made in France, and the house's Paris boutique is at 44 rue du Bac. Flower Lust Extrait de Parfum is available at Redolia Perfumery as a full 90 ml bottle.
Fragrance Notes
What's the difference between accords and notes?
Accords are the overall scent families a fragrance gives off — its character at a glance. Notes are the individual ingredients you smell as it develops, from the first spritz (top) to the lasting dry-down (base).
