Description
What it smells like
D'ORSAY À Cœur Perdu. L.B. is a floral-citrus Eau de Parfum built around iris and orange blossom. It opens on an iris aldehyde accord with bergamot: the aldehydes give that clean, slightly fizzy brightness familiar from classic perfumery, while the iris arrives early and stays cool and powdery rather than sweet. Bergamot keeps the opening lifted and fresh.
The heart is where it becomes properly floral. Orange blossom brings a soft, honeyed white-floral warmth, and neroli, distilled from the same tree's flowers, adds a greener, more citrusy sparkle. The two together are gentler than a full white-floral bouquet: luminous, slightly soapy in the pleasant sense, and easy to wear.
The base is quiet and modern. Cashmeran gives a smooth, musky-woody softness with a faintly velvety texture, and moss adds a dry, green-earthy shade that keeps the florals from turning powdery-sweet. The result sits close to the skin and lasts well for an Eau de Parfum, finishing more transparent than it began.
Who made it
À Cœur Perdu. L.B. was composed by Fanny Bal, a French perfumer at IFF. Born in Lyon in 1988, she studied chemistry before training at ISIPCA and was mentored at IFF by the master perfumer Dominique Ropion. Her work for Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, including Eau de Magnolia and Promise, made her reputation, and she has contributed to designer fragrances including Givenchy L'Interdit.
The fragrance was released in 2023. D'ORSAY presents it as a scent of secret love, the tangy moment just before something happens, with the initials L.B. standing for the person who inspired it.
Who it’s for
This suits anyone who likes iris and orange blossom handled with a light touch. If you enjoy clean, elegant florals and find many white-floral perfumes too heavy or too sweet, À Cœur Perdu offers the same beauty with more air in it. It is unisex, and the cashmeran-and-moss base gives it enough dryness to work on anyone.
It is also a good introduction to D'ORSAY, because it shows the house style clearly: legible materials, nothing overloaded, and a finish that stays close to the wearer.
When to wear it
À Cœur Perdu is at its best in spring and summer and during the day, when the aldehydes and bergamot feel brightest. It is well suited to the office, daytime events, weddings and any occasion where you want to smell polished without dominating a room.
It also works for evenings out in warm weather, and its soft drydown makes it a comfortable everyday scent. In deep winter it can read as a little cool, though it remains an elegant choice indoors.
About the house
D'ORSAY is a Parisian perfume house whose story begins in 1830 with Count Alfred d'Orsay, a dandy and artist who, as the house tells it, composed a fragrance in tribute to his love for Marguerite, Countess of Blessington. It is remembered as one of the first perfumes worn by women and men alike, and the modern house has made that its founding principle: every D'ORSAY scent is unisex. The current collection names each Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette after a person, adding their initials, so the range reads as a set of portraits rather than products. Fragrances are made in France and sold in 50 ml and 90 ml bottles, and the house's Paris boutique is at 44 rue du Bac. À Cœur Perdu. L.B. Eau de Parfum is available at Redolia Perfumery as a full 90 ml bottle.
Fragrance Notes
What's the difference between accords and notes?
Accords are the overall scent families a fragrance gives off — its character at a glance. Notes are the individual ingredients you smell as it develops, from the first spritz (top) to the lasting dry-down (base).
