What it smells like

Ramon Monegal Yummy Jam is an amber-vanilla eau de parfum that treats gourmand perfumery as an adult pleasure rather than a dessert. It opens with bergamot over coffee and cocoa, and the bergamot matters: without it the coffee would read as sweetened syrup, and with it the first ten minutes are bitter, roasted and bright at the same time. Coffee here is the dark roasted kind, closer to an espresso crema than to a coffee liqueur, and the cocoa underneath is unsweetened, dusty and slightly chalky.

The heart brings coumalactone, a creamy caramellic lactone that smells of warm milk crust and hay, and it is the hinge of the whole composition. Around it sit musk and tonka bean, tonka adding its almond-and-hay sweetness, musk adding skin. This is where Yummy Jam stops being a coffee fragrance and becomes a texture: soft, spreadable, jam-like, which is where the name comes from.

The base is sandalwood, burnt sugar and vanilla. Burnt sugar is caramel taken one step past comfort, with the faint smokiness of sugar that has caught in the pan, and it keeps the vanilla from turning into a cupcake. Sandalwood underneath gives the whole thing a creamy woody floor so the drydown stays warm rather than sticky. Expect around six to eight hours on skin with moderate-to-strong projection for the first two.

Who made it

Yummy Jam was composed by Ramon Monegal, the fourth-generation Barcelona perfumer who founded the house that carries his name. It belongs to Katharsis, the collection he built with the artist Miguel Caravaca and describes as an olfactory ritual of disinhibition. Each Katharsis fragrance is tied to one idea, and Yummy Jam's is pleasure: the brand's own line is that pleasure is a brief alteration of monotony, constantly sought and rarely confessed.

Released in 2026, the collection also gave the house a new visual language — the hand-drawn Caravaca artwork that wraps the outer tube — while keeping Monegal's signature inkwell flacon.

Who it's for

This is for people who like gourmand fragrances but have grown tired of sugar. If you wear coffee, cocoa and tonka scents, or if vanilla-and-sandalwood drydowns are your comfort zone, Yummy Jam will feel like a more grown-up version of that idea. The bitterness in the top and the burnt edge in the base are what separate it from the sweeter mainstream gourmands.

It is unisex and skews warm rather than fresh. If you dislike coffee notes, or want something light and transparent, this is not it. If you want a fragrance with a soft, edible aura that stays close to the body after the first hour, it is a strong pick.

When to wear it

Yummy Jam belongs to autumn and winter, and mostly to the evening. Cold air suits it: the coffee and cocoa read as cosy rather than heavy, and the burnt-sugar base carries well in low temperatures. It works for dinners, nights out and cold-weather days when you want something enveloping.

In heat, the sweetness can build quickly, so treat summer use as a one-spray proposition. Two sprays on the chest is enough for most wearers; the trail is noticeable without being loud, and it lingers on scarves and knitwear for a day or more.

About the house

Ramon Monegal is a Barcelona perfume house founded by the fourth generation of Spain's most important perfuming family. His great-grandfather's drugstore led to the founding of Myrurgia in 1916, and Ramon trained inside the family company from 1972 before studying with Artur Jordi Pey at Firmenich in Geneva, Marcel Carles in Grasse and Pierre Bourdon in Paris. He spent some thirty years as Myrurgia's in-house perfumer, and when the company was sold in 2000 he stepped away from corporate perfumery to work independently, launching his eponymous house later that decade. Literature is his stated inspiration after nature, which is why every fragrance is housed in the same faceted inkwell flacon with his monogram embossed on the flip-top cap: one vessel, many stories.
