What It Smells Like
Parfums de Marly Valaya is a clean musk and white floral fragrance. The house describes it as a veil of linen on the skin, and that is a fair summary: bright, soft, freshly laundered, with a peach-and-citrus glow at the top.
The opening combines aldehydes with white peach, bergamot and mandarin. Aldehydes are the sparkling, slightly soapy materials that give classic perfumes their lift; here they make the fruit feel airy and clean rather than sweet.
The heart is orange blossom and lily of the valley, built with modern floral molecules, Petalia, Nympheal and Mahonial, that smell like fresh petals with no heaviness. A touch of vetiver keeps it dry. The base is musk and ambroxan, a mineral amber material, with a little vanilla and Akigalawood, a peppery wood note derived from patchouli.

About the House
Parfums de Marly was founded in Paris in 2009 by Julien Sprecher. The house takes its name and its imagery from the royal château of Marly and from the perfumed court of Louis XV, an era when fragrance was worn lavishly and horse racing was a royal passion. That is why every bottle carries a crest of two rearing horses, and why several of the fragrances, Herod, Godolphin and Darley among them, are named after celebrated horses.
