What It Smells Like

Parfums de Marly Eragon is a spiced vanilla and leather extrait de parfum. It is the warm counterpart to Valero, launched in the same year, 2025: where Valero is fresh and herbal, Eragon is ambery, dark and smooth.

It opens with cardamom, mandarin and bergamot, a bright, aromatic spice over citrus. The heart turns warmer with cinnamon and two unusual materials: cypriol, an earthy, smoky root also known as nagarmotha, and davana, an Indian herb with a fruity, liqueur-like sweetness.

The base is vanilla bean and tonka bean with leather and patchouli. The vanilla is rich but not sugary, because the leather and the earthy patchouli pull it toward something drier and more textured. The overall effect is close to a spiced amber worn with a suede jacket.

Fragrantica's community ranks warm spicy as the leading accord, followed by vanilla, aromatic, citrus and woody. It is a recent release with a small and fairly divided vote: 3.60 out of 5 from just over 400 ratings. Like Valero, it comes in a rounded flacon with a sculpted horse head.

Who Made It

Parfums de Marly has not publicly named a perfumer for Eragon, and neither Fragrantica nor Parfumo lists one. We would rather leave the credit open than guess. What can be said is that it follows the house method: a brief built around one clear idea, executed with the richness and staying power the range is known for.

Eragon is for people who enjoy warm, spicy ambers and want one with a leathery edge. Fragrantica lists it for women and men.

If you already wear Layton or Carlisle, this will feel like a quieter, more intimate relative, made at extrait concentration and meant to be noticed up close rather than across a room. If you want freshness, choose Valero. It is a fragrance to try on skin, since the cypriol and leather read differently from person to person.

When to Wear It

Fragrantica voters place it in winter and fall, almost equally, with summer last; night is ahead of day. Spice, vanilla and leather are cold-weather materials.

Wear it in the evening, for dinners and dates, or on a cold weekend. As an extrait it stays close and lasts, so apply it to skin rather than clothes and let it warm up.

About the House

Parfums de Marly was founded in Paris in 2009 by Julien Sprecher. The house takes its name and its imagery from the royal château of Marly and from the perfumed court of Louis XV, an era when fragrance was worn lavishly and horse racing was a royal passion. That is why every bottle carries a crest of two rearing horses, and why several of the fragrances, Herod, Godolphin and Darley among them, are named after celebrated horses.
