Melanie Martinez Cry Baby Perfume Milk Eau de Parfum
ByMelanie Martinez
Description
What it smells like
Melanie Martinez Cry Baby Perfume Milk is a gourmand eau de parfum built around a milk accord, and it commits to that idea more completely than almost anything else on the shelf. It opens on milk, strawberry and forest fruits — strawberry milk, essentially, but the dark berries underneath keep it from reading as a children's drink. There is a waxy, slightly cosmetic facet in the opening too, which the house describes as a lipstick accord, and it is what gives the sweetness an adult edge from the first minute.
The heart is powdery. The brand calls it a baby lotion accord and that is exactly right: soft, clean, faintly talc-like, the smell of a nursery rather than a dessert. This is the section that does the emotional work, and it is also the reason the fragrance has the cult following it does — powdery-lactonic accords are strongly nostalgic, and this one is aimed squarely at that response.
The base is caramel and woody notes, and the caramel is burnt rather than buttery, with a slight bitterness that stops the whole thing collapsing into sugar. The woods underneath are dry and a little dark — the house calls them sinister, which is marketing, but there is genuinely something shadowed holding up the sweetness. Expect six to eight hours with moderate-to-strong projection in the first two, then a close, powdery-sweet skin scent.
Who made it
Cry Baby Perfume Milk was composed by Catherine Selig of Takasago, working with Melanie Martinez. It first appeared in 2016 as a 75 ml bottle tied to the Cry Baby album, sold out, and stayed gone for roughly five years while resale prices climbed toward four figures.
The version sold here is the 2025 relaunch, released on 4 August 2025 for the album's tenth anniversary. It is the same composition in a larger 100 ml bottle, with a magnetic cap replacing the original screw top. It is produced under licence by Flower Shop Perfumes Co. and sold through Portals Parfums, Martinez's own fragrance house. The relaunch sold out within hours.
Who it's for
This is for people who want a milk-and-sugar gourmand without apology. If you wear lactonic, powdery or caramel fragrances and find most of them too thin or too obviously edible, Cry Baby has more weight and a stranger, more interesting opening than the category norm.
It is listed as a women's fragrance and wears that way, though nothing in the pyramid is strictly gendered — anyone who likes powdery gourmands will get on with it. If you dislike sweet or milky notes, there is no part of this you will enjoy; it is sweet from the first spray to the last. It is also, plainly, a piece of the Cry Baby world, and a good share of its appeal is that. It is vegan and not tested on animals.
When to wear it
Cry Baby belongs to autumn and winter and to the evening, in the way most caramel-and-milk gourmands do — cold air keeps the sweetness comfortable and carries the powdery heart well. It suits everyday wear, evenings out and cold-weather days when you want something enveloping and familiar.
In heat the caramel builds quickly, so summer wear wants one spray rather than three. Two sprays is right for most people; this projects more than its soft character suggests, and over-application is the usual reason a gourmand this sweet becomes tiring.
About the bottle and the project
The flacon is the point almost as much as the juice. It is a vintage-style glass baby bottle — white glass, a pale pink collar and an amber rubber nipple for a cap — printed with Melanie Martinez's script logo, the Cry Baby character, and the wink "NOT FOR CONSUMPTION". It is the signature prop of the Cry Baby persona rendered as a perfume bottle, and it arrives in a printed cylindrical canister designed to be given rather than unpacked and discarded. The 2025 edition keeps the shape and grows it to a full 100 ml. Cry Baby Perfume Milk Eau de Parfum is available at Redolia Perfumery as a full 100 ml bottle.
Fragrance Notes
What's the difference between accords and notes?
Accords are the overall scent families a fragrance gives off — its character at a glance. Notes are the individual ingredients you smell as it develops, from the first spritz (top) to the lasting dry-down (base).
