Catherine Selig

Catherine Selig is a senior fine-fragrance perfumer at Takasago International, based in New York. Her route into the craft is unusually literal: her great-grandfather, Meinrad Hilfiger, was a Maître Gantier Parfumeur who ran a nineteenth-century Swiss perfume house, and she came to the work through his surviving formula book and distillation cabinet.

She trained at ISIPCA in Versailles with an internship in Grasse, then spent close to thirteen years at Firmenich before moving to Takasago. Her credits run from niche-adjacent projects to large licensed launches: Oscar de la Renta Alibi and Alibi Eau Sensuelle, the GUESS Originals collection, Jackie by Jaclyn Smith, and Penguin Blue Label.

For Redolia her relevant work is Melanie Martinez Cry Baby Perfume Milk, composed with Martinez and first released in 2016, then relaunched at 100 ml in 2025. It is a difficult brief handled well — a milk accord with strawberry over a powdery heart and a burnt-caramel base, sweet throughout but held back from collapsing into sugar by the dry woods underneath.
