What It Smells Like

Initio Narcotic Delight is a cherry, tobacco and vanilla fragrance with a boozy cognac heart. Released in 2024 as part of The Carnal Blends, it is a rich evening scent in the cherry-liqueur style that has become very popular in recent years.

The opening is cherry with pink and black pepper. The cherry is dark and plump, closer to a cherry preserved in liqueur than to candy, and the two peppers give it a dry, tingling edge.

The heart is cognac, hedione and rose. Cognac brings a warm, oaky, dried-fruit note that makes the cherry feel boozy. Hedione is a jasmine-like molecule that perfumers use to add radiance and air, and a little rose rounds out the fruit.

The base is tobacco, vanilla and tonka bean with cedar and patchouli. Tobacco and vanilla together are a classic pairing, sweet and slightly smoky, and the woods keep the drydown from becoming syrupy. Initio does not name the perfumers behind most of its fragrances, and neither Fragrantica nor Parfumo lists one for Narcotic Delight. We would rather leave the credit open than guess.
