What it smells like

D'ORSAY Sweet Disruption. W.T. is a citrus-aromatic eau de parfum built on mint, which is rarer than it sounds — mint is usually a flourish in the top rather than the subject. It opens on spearmint, pink pepper and a mandarin aldehyde: the spearmint is cool and leafy rather than toothpaste-sharp, the pink pepper gives it a dry rosy heat, and the mandarin aldehyde adds a bright, almost fizzy citrus lift. The heart is where it turns serious: frankincense essence, jasmine absolute and geranium, so the green brightness gives way to resin and a faintly indolic floral warmth. The base is a moss accord with vetiver and olibanum — earthy, slightly smoky, dry. Expect six to eight hours, with the mint gone within the hour and the incense-and-moss core carrying the rest of the day.

The house frames it as visionary love, and the structure is genuinely unusual: a fragrance that opens like a garden in the morning and closes like a church in the afternoon.

Who made it

Sweet Disruption. W.T. was composed by Jean-Christophe Hérault and released in 2024. Hérault trained as a chemist, was introduced to perfumery by Pierre Bourdon, joined IFF in 2010 and was promoted to Vice President Perfumer in 2023; he also studied art history at the Paris Beaux-Arts.

He built this one largely from IFF's LMR Naturals palette — the pink pepper, jasmine, geranium, vetiver and olibanum are all natural extracts — and says that for him fragrances are inherently gender-neutral. It was initially conceived for D'ORSAY's Tokyo boutique.

Who it's for

This is for people who want something green and aromatic with real substance underneath. If you wear incense fragrances and want one that is not solemn, or mint-forward scents and want one that does not vanish, W.T. answers both. The moss-and-vetiver base is what separates it from the many bright, short-lived aromatics.

Within D'ORSAY it is the daytime counterpart to the heavier Extraits. J'ai l'Air de Ce Que Je Suis. J.R. is softer and more citrus-floral; W.T. is sharper and more mineral. It is unisex and genuinely so. If you dislike mint or find incense austere, this is not the bottle.

When to wear it

W.T. belongs to spring and summer and to daytime. Heat suits it: the mint reads as cooling rather than medicinal, and the moss base keeps it grounded where a lighter aromatic would evaporate. It works well for the office, everyday wear and daytime outings, and holds into a warm evening.

Two to three sprays. The opening is loud for its first ten minutes and then settles considerably, so judge the dose on how it smells at the half-hour mark rather than on the first impression.
