Jean-Christophe Hérault
Jean-Christophe Hérault is a Vice President Perfumer at IFF, promoted to that role in 2023.
He trained as a chemist and worked in quality control at Fragrance Resources before being introduced to perfumery by the master perfumer Pierre Bourdon; he joined IFF in 2010. After reading Proust he went on to study art history at the Paris Beaux-Arts school, and his work is often described in terms of contrast — compositions that set opposing ideas against each other rather than blending them away. His credits include Balenciaga Florabotanica, Comme des Garçons Amazingreen, Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb Extreme, Dolce & Gabbana The One For Men Intense and work for Mugler’s The Exceptions collection.
For D’ORSAY he composed Sweet Disruption. W.T. (2024), built largely from IFF’s LMR Naturals palette: spearmint, pink pepper and a mandarin aldehyde over frankincense, jasmine absolute and geranium, closing on moss, vetiver and olibanum. It was first conceived for D’ORSAY’s Tokyo boutique. He has said that for him fragrances are inherently gender-neutral.
