BORNTOSTANDOUT Saint Petal is an Extrait Extrême: a dry, smoky composition built on orange blossom and jasmine sambac over leather, oud and vetiver, with cumin and a dust accord at the top. It was composed by Jordi Fernández, launched in 2026, and is sold as a 50 ml extrait at the house's stated 55–62% concentration. Fragrantica rates it 4.21 out of 5.

What It Smells Like

Saint Petal opens on dust and cumin, which is a confrontational pair. The dust accord is dry, mineral and papery — the smell of still air in a closed room — and cumin adds a warm, faintly animalic spice that some people read as skin and others find difficult. Bergamot and orange blossom lift behind them, and the contrast between the clean flower and the dry dust is the whole idea of the fragrance.

The heart is white floral, but handled severely. Jasmine sambac and violet leaf sit with incense and coffee, and the incense in particular keeps the flowers from ever turning pretty. Violet leaf is green and sharp rather than powdery, coffee is bitter and dark, and together they make the jasmine read as something found in a church rather than a garden.

The base is where the extrait concentration shows. Leather, oud, vetiver, akigalawood and amyris build a dry, smoky, slightly animalic foundation. Akigalawood is a patchouli derivative with a peppery, oud-like character, and amyris is a Haitian wood that adds a sweet resinous warmth under the smoke. The house also lists cistus here, and ages the extrait for three months in Onggi, traditional Korean pottery.

Fragrantica's community ranks the accords woody first at full weight, then oud at 93, white floral at 91, ozonic at 87 and leather at 78. That ozonic reading at 87 is the surprise: there is a cold, open-air transparency running through a composition that is otherwise dense and dark, and it is what keeps the whole thing breathable. Who Made It

Saint Petal was composed by Jordi Fernández, a senior perfumer at Givaudan and one of the most prolific noses working today, with several hundred fragrances to his name. He is self-taught — unusually at this level, he did not attend ISIPCA — and began at Eurofragrance in Barcelona.

His work also appears at BDK Parfums, D'ORSAY, Essential Parfums and Mind Games, and elsewhere in this house's range. Saint Petal is the most austere thing of his we carry.

One note on classification: Fragrantica has not assigned this fragrance an olfactive family, so we have not invented one. Parfumo describes it as leathery-animal, which is a fair summary of the drydown.

Who It's For

For people who want a white floral that is not remotely sweet. The cumin, dust and incense make this a difficult fragrance in the first ten minutes, and that is clearly deliberate.

It suits wearers who already enjoy oud and leather compositions and want a floral that can sit alongside them. If cumin reads as unpleasant to you — and for a significant minority it does — try before buying, because it is present from the first spray.

Unisex, and genuinely so: the flowers pull one way, the leather and oud firmly the other.

When To Wear It

Cold weather. Fragrantica's seasonal voting puts winter first and autumn close behind, and the oud, leather and incense all gain from cool air.

Evening rather than day, and occasions where being noticed is acceptable. This is an extrait at 55–62% concentration and it behaves like one — expect long wear and real presence, and apply considerably less than you would an eau de parfum.

About The House

BORNTOSTANDOUT is a Korean house founded in Seoul in 2022 by Jun Lim. It works with established European perfumers rather than an in-house nose, and its names — Dirty Heaven, Filthy Musk, Drunk Lovers — are deliberately blunt in a category that usually is not.
