Room 1015 is a Paris perfume house founded in 2015 by Michael Partouche, a trained pharmacist and touring musician who names each fragrance after a piece of rock history. The line runs to eleven fragrances plus a discovery set, composed by three perfumers rather than one house nose. Cherry Punk is its signature; Wavechild and Love-O-Matic are its most wearable. Prices run $165 for 100 ml eau de parfum and $215 for extrait.
The house takes its name from room 1015 of the Continental Hyatt House on Sunset Strip — the "Riot House", where touring bands in the 1970s took their after-parties. That is not decoration. Every fragrance in the line starts from a specific cultural reference: London punk, the Beatles in Rishikesh, Huntington Beach surf culture, a laundromat. The house calls the result olfactory counterculture.
This guide covers all eleven: what each smells like, who made it, and which to buy first.
Who makes Room 1015 perfumes?
Founder Michael Partouche — Dr. Mike — qualified as a pharmacist in 2005, then spent five years in London touring with his band. When it folded he returned to Paris and concluded that fragrance was the one discipline that could hold both halves of his life. The brand's about page describes him as "a musician at heart and a trained pharmacist."
He does not compose the fragrances himself. Three perfumers are responsible for the current line:
- Jérôme di Marino (Mane) composed six of the eleven — Wasabi Klub, Poppy Riot, Love-O-Matic, Jasmine Freak, Wavechild and the Electric Wood Extrait. He trained at Givaudan and Takasago, the latter under Francis Kurkdjian; his commercial work includes Kenzo World Power.
- Jérôme Epinette (Robertet, New York) composed Cherry Punk in both concentrations and Hollyrose. He is best known for composing most of the Byredo line with Ben Gorham — if you have worn Gypsy Water or Bal d'Afrique, you know his work.
- Serge de Oliveira (Robertet) composed Purple Mantra, and it is the quietest thing the house makes.
Sweet Leaf carries no perfumer credit from either the brand or Fragrantica, so we are not going to assign one.
What does Room 1015 Cherry Punk smell like?
Cherry Punk is the fragrance that made the house's reputation, and with 3,299 votes on Fragrantica it is by a wide margin its most-discussed release. Despite the name it is a leather scent first and a cherry scent second.
It opens on cherry, saffron and Sichuan pepper — dark and dry, the saffron pulling the fruit towards leather rather than sweetness. Violet, mimosa and jasmine give the heart a dusty, cosmetic quality. Then leather, tonka bean and patchouli take over with a pronounced animalic edge. Animalic simply means a note that reads as skin, fur or musk rather than as flowers or fruit.
If you have worn Tom Ford Lost Cherry, this is its opposite in temperament: Lost Cherry is a sweet, almond-and-liqueur cherry, while Cherry Punk is drier, smokier and far less sugary. Against Kilian Angels' Share, another frequent comparison, Cherry Punk trades the cognac-and-cinnamon warmth for leather.
One honest caveat, because it comes up repeatedly in reviews: the eau de parfum's longevity divides people. A number of wearers report it fading close to the skin within a couple of hours. That is the single best argument for the extrait.
Cherry Punk Eau de Parfum vs Extrait de Parfum: which should you buy?
This is the question we are asked most about the house, and the answer is not the obvious one. The Extrait is not a concentrated version of the eau de parfum. It is a different composition.
Fragrantica lists them as separate entries with different launch years (2020 for the eau de parfum, 2023 for the extrait), different note lists and different olfactive families. The accord rankings make the difference plain: the eau de parfum is led by leather with animalic and smoky facets underneath, while the extrait is led by cherry itself, with metallic and fresh-spicy facets and no animalic character at all.
In practice: buy the eau de parfum if you want the darker, dirtier, more leather-forward version and accept that it may sit close to the skin. Buy the extrait if you want the cherry to stay in the foreground, you prefer a cleaner drydown, or longevity matters to you. At $215 against $165 the extrait is the more expensive bottle, but it is also the one that lasts.

Which Room 1015 fragrance should I buy first?
If you want the house signature: Cherry Punk, in whichever concentration suits the brief above.
If you want something you can wear to work: Love-O-Matic. It is built on the idea of a laundromat — warm cotton, clean musk, a little fruit — and with 1,264 Fragrantica votes and a rating above four it is the best-liked thing the house makes after Cherry Punk. Think of it as the niche answer to Glossier You, with more fruit and better quality materials.
If you want a summer fragrance: Wavechild, which has 2,108 votes behind it. Mandarin and lemon over watermelon and dry coconut, on an ambergris base that gives it the salt-on-skin quality most aquatics fake. It is warmer and more textured than Bleu de Chanel and considerably less synthetic than the usual blue fragrance.
If you want something nobody else is wearing: Wasabi Klub, the 2026 release — actual wasabi next to Timur and Sichuan pepper over a dry mineral base. Sharp, savoury, completely unsweet.
If you are not sure: the Room 1015 Discovery Set is $60 for ten 2.5 ml sprays covering the whole range. For a house with no single signature accord, that is the sensible way in — there is genuinely no bottle here that predicts the others.
Is Room 1015 worth the money?
At $165 for 100 ml, Room 1015 sits below most niche houses it competes with — and Cherry Punk is by the same perfumer behind most of Byredo. The bottles are large for the price; many houses give you 50 ml at this level.
The honest counterargument is performance. This house favours character over projection, and several fragrances — Cherry Punk EDP and Wasabi Klub in particular — wear close to the skin after the first hour. If you measure value in sillage, look elsewhere.
Electric Wood deserves its own note. It was the house's first fragrance in 2015, born from Partouche's first Gibson guitar, and the Extrait released in 2025 is its tenth-anniversary reworking — nutmeg over oakmoss over vanilla, and the most classical thing in the range.
Frequently asked questions
Is Room 1015 Cherry Punk worth it?
Yes, if you want a leather fragrance with an unexpected opening rather than a sweet cherry. It is the house's most-reviewed scent with 3,299 Fragrantica votes. The main caveat is longevity on the eau de parfum, which several wearers find modest; the extrait is the better choice if that matters to you.
Cherry Punk EDP vs Extrait: which is better?
Neither is simply stronger — they are different compositions with different note lists and different families. The eau de parfum is leather-led with an animalic, smoky character. The extrait is cherry-led, cleaner and more metallic, with no animalic facet, and it lasts longer. Choose by character, not by concentration.
Does Room 1015 perfume last long?
It varies by fragrance. The extraits — Cherry Punk Extrait and Electric Wood Extrait — perform strongly and last a full day. Several of the eaux de parfum, particularly Cherry Punk EDP and the citrus-led Wasabi Klub, sit close to the skin after the first hour or two. This is a house built around character rather than projection.
Is Room 1015 unisex?
Yes. Every fragrance in the line is listed as being for women and men, and the house has never split its range by gender. Cherry Punk and Purple Mantra lean traditionally masculine in structure, while Jasmine Freak reads more feminine, but none is marketed that way.
What does Room 1015 smell similar to?
There is no single house accord, so the comparison depends on the bottle. Cherry Punk sits near Tom Ford Lost Cherry in subject but is drier and more leathery. Love-O-Matic is in the clean-musk territory of Glossier You. Wavechild compares to mainstream aquatics like Bleu de Chanel but with real ambergris and coconut. Sweet Leaf has few mainstream equivalents at all.
Who is the perfumer behind Room 1015?
Three perfumers, not one. Jérôme di Marino of Mane composed six of the eleven, Jérôme Epinette of Robertet — the nose behind most of Byredo — composed Cherry Punk and Hollyrose, and Serge de Oliveira composed Purple Mantra. Sweet Leaf has no published credit.
Why is Room 1015 called that?
It is the number of a hotel room: room 1015 of the Continental Hyatt House on Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, known as the "Riot House" for the after-parties touring rock bands held there in the 1970s. The house uses it as shorthand for a particular kind of freedom, and names its fragrances after cultural references rather than materials.
What is the best Room 1015 fragrance for summer?
Wavechild, without much argument. It is built on mandarin, orange and lemon over watermelon and dry coconut, with an ambergris base that reads as salt on warm skin, and it performs best in heat. Wasabi Klub is the drier, sharper alternative if you want citrus with no sweetness at all.
Where can I buy Room 1015 in the US?

Standard shipping is free on US orders of $79 or more; orders under $79 pay the carrier rate you pick at checkout. You can also try the range on the scent bar at our Somerville boutique.
