Louise Turner

Louise Turner is a perfumer at Givaudan, where she has spent her career after beginning at Quest International before its absorption into the company.

For Liquides Imaginaires she composed Blanche Bête (2021), which is the clearest statement of what she does well: a milk-and-ambrette opening that reads as skin rather than dessert, a white-floral heart of jasmine and tuberose petals cut with incense so it never turns syrupy, and a base of tonka, cacao and musky vanilla that lands soft and powdery rather than heavy. Fragrantica’s community reads the result as vanilla, musky and lactonic in roughly equal measure, which is a fair description of a composition that keeps three ideas in balance instead of letting one win.

It is a difficult register to handle. Milk and lactonic accords tip into cloying very easily, and white florals at this concentration usually dominate everything around them; Blanche Bête does neither, and the incense in the heart is the reason.
