What It Smells Like

Initio Oud for Grace is a smooth, sweet woody oud fragrance, launched in 2026 as the newest member of the Black Gold Project. Where Oud for Greatness is forceful, this one is composed: the house calls it a controlled, contemporary interpretation of oud.

The opening is bergamot, a brief, clean citrus note. The heart follows quickly with praline and black pepper. Praline gives a roasted, nutty sweetness, and the pepper keeps it dry, so the first impression is warm and softly spiced rather than sugary.

The base carries most of the fragrance: vanilla and oud with cedarwood, guaiac wood and sandalwood. The three woods do different jobs. Cedar is dry and pencil-like, guaiac wood is faintly smoky, and sandalwood is creamy. Together with the vanilla they wrap the oud in a smooth, milky texture, so it reads as depth and polish rather than as an animalic note.

Fragrantica's community ranks woody as the leading accord, followed by sweet, fresh spicy, vanilla and oud. It is a very new release, and its rating of 4.04 out of 5 rests on fewer than 200 votes so far.

Who Made It

Initio does not name the perfumers behind most of its fragrances, and neither Fragrantica nor Parfumo lists one for Oud for Grace. We would rather leave the credit open than guess. The house presents its fragrances as the work of a collective, with the materials and their effect on mood placed ahead of any individual signature.

Oud for Grace is for people who want the richness of oud without its sharp edges. Fragrantica lists it for women and men.

If Oud for Greatness is too bold for you, this is the gentler alternative, and if you like woody vanillas it will feel familiar straight away. If you want a raw, smoky oud, it will seem too polite. It is an elegant, evening-leaning scent that suits people who prefer to be noticed up close.

When to Wear It

The early Fragrantica votes put it firmly in fall and winter, with warm months barely registering, and night ahead of day. Sweet woods and oud belong to cold weather.

Wear it for dinners, dates and occasions in the cooler half of the year. Two sprays are enough to start, and you can judge its strength on your own skin from there.

Initio Parfums Privés launched in Paris in 2015 with an unusual premise: that scent acts on mood and attraction before we consciously register it.
