What it smells like

D'ORSAY Je Suis Le Plus Grand. M.A. is a musky-woody eau de parfum and the most minimal composition in the house's Eau de Parfum line — five materials, and it uses every one of them. It opens on aldehydes alone, which is a bold way to start: a cold, soapy, slightly metallic sparkle with nothing softening it for the first minutes. The heart brings iris and a violet accord, and this is where it becomes beautiful rather than merely striking — iris is rooty, cool and powdery, violet adds a sweet, almost candied lift, and together they give the fragrance its characteristic suede-and-face-powder texture. The base is ambroxan and white musk: ambroxan supplies the salty, mineral radiance that makes it project from the skin, and white musk keeps the finish clean and soft. Expect seven to nine hours with moderate-to-strong projection that never becomes heavy.

The house calls it electric love, and the aldehyde-to-ambroxan arc does feel like a current — bright at the start, humming by the end.

Who made it

M.A. was composed by Anne-Sophie Behaghel and released in 2020. Behaghel co-founded the independent Paris creation studio Flair in 2013 with Amélie Bourgeois, and D'ORSAY credits her as a perfumer from Studio Flair.

The restraint here is the point: a composition this short leaves nowhere to hide, and the iris has to carry the middle on its own.

Who it's for

This is for people who like iris and clean musks and want them with some shine. If you wear ambroxan-driven modern fragrances and find them thin, the iris-and-violet heart gives M.A. a texture most of them lack. It also suits anyone who likes aldehydic openings — there are not many contemporary fragrances that lead with them this openly.

Within D'ORSAY it is the most abstract of the Eaux de Parfum. Une Rose au Paradis. R.B. is its closest sibling in weightlessness, but R.B. is a rose and M.A. is not a flower at all. It is unisex and sits squarely in the middle. If you want warmth, sweetness or a gourmand drydown, look elsewhere.

When to wear it

M.A. is close to all-season and genuinely flexible on time of day. It is at its best in spring and autumn, works in winter because the ambroxan carries in cold air, and stays comfortable in summer because there is no sugar or resin in it. It suits the office, everyday wear, evenings out and dates.

Two to three sprays. The ambroxan gives it more reach than its soft character suggests, so it registers at conversational distance without needing a heavy hand.
