Description
What It Smells Like
BDK Parfums Silver Ceremony is the driest and most restrained of the three Collection Studio releases — a citrus opening over a woody, mineral base, with none of the sweetness that runs through its two siblings.
It opens bright and sharp: Italian lemon, bergamot and green mandarin together. This is a proper citrus accord rather than a token one, and it lasts longer than citrus usually does because of what sits underneath it.
The heart is brief and warm — ginger and pink pepper, both doing the job of carrying the citrus down into the base without introducing sweetness. The transition is quick, and some wearers will find the fragrance reads as nearly linear.
The base is where the character is. Atlas cedar and patchouli give it structure, cypriol brings a smoky, earthy, slightly leathery quality, Spanish labdanum adds resinous warmth, and oud sits underneath all of it. A residual citrus note persists into the drydown, which is unusual and is what keeps the whole thing from going heavy.
The community accord ranking is citrus first at full weight, then woody and fresh spicy level with each other, then fresh and oud. It is rated 3.89 out of 5 from 235 votes — the lowest-rated of the trio, which tends to reflect its restraint rather than any fault.
Who Made It
All three Collection Studio fragrances were composed by Jordi Fernández, a senior perfumer at Givaudan and one of the most prolific noses working today, with several hundred fragrances to his name. He is self-taught — unusually at this level, he did not attend ISIPCA — and began at Eurofragrance in Barcelona before Givaudan.
The collection was developed with Givaudan through what BDK describes as a continuous dialogue with the house's own direction, rather than being briefed out and handed back. His work also appears at D'ORSAY, Essential Parfums, BORNTOSTANDOUT and Mind Games, and elsewhere in the BDK range. Silver Ceremony is the sequins corner of the collection, built around cedar.
Who It's For
For anyone who wants a citrus with real staying power, or a woody fragrance that does not announce itself. The cypriol and labdanum give it a dry, mineral quality that is uncommon at this price point.
It suits people who like Atlas cedar, vetiver-adjacent dryness or smoky woods, and anyone who found Oud Paradisio too sweet. Of the three it is the most conventionally wearable and the one most likely to work in daylight and in company.
Unisex, with a dry woody structure traditionally coded masculine and a citrus top that pulls it back to neutral.
When to Wear It
The most flexible of the three across the year. The citrus keeps it wearable in warm weather while the cedar, patchouli and labdanum give it enough body for cold air. Spring and autumn suit it particularly well.
It works across the day, which is rare for an absolu — restrained enough for an office applied lightly, and interesting enough for an evening. Expect long wear with moderate projection rather than a large trail.
About the House
BDK Parfums is a Parisian house founded by David Benoît Kian, whose family has been in perfumery for three generations. The main line — Gris Charnel, Rouge Smoking, Pas Ce Soir, Oud Abramad — built its reputation on compositions that are rich but legible, and it has become one of the more widely collected French niche houses of the last decade.
Collection Studio is the house's couture tier, positioned above the main range and presented in a heavier flacon with a metallic base. The three fragrances are each built around a material — silk for Stellar Silk, sequins for Silver Ceremony, leather and oud for Oud Paradisio. Fragrance Notes
What's the difference between accords and notes?
Accords are the overall scent families a fragrance gives off — its character at a glance. Notes are the individual ingredients you smell as it develops, from the first spritz (top) to the lasting dry-down (base).
