Description
What It Smells Like
BDK Parfums Oud Paradisio is the strangest of the three Collection Studio releases and the most immediately recognisable. It is an oud fragrance that opens on pineapple and ice cream, which sounds like a provocation and works because the smoke arrives at the same moment.
The top is pineapple and an ice-cream accord set against incense and saffron, with bergamot lifting the whole thing. The fruit is tropical and juicy, the ice cream lactonic and cold, and the incense cuts across both almost immediately — so the opening reads as sweet and smoky at once rather than as a gourmand that later turns serious.
The heart is rose, and specifically two of them: Bulgarian rose for its jammy, honeyed depth and Turkish rose for its sharper, more peppery facet. Together they bridge the fruit above and the wood below, and this is the stage where the composition sounds most like a classical Middle Eastern structure.
The base is Thai oud and cocoa absolute. The cocoa is the clever part — bitter rather than chocolatey, it picks up the roasted quality in the oud and keeps the drydown dry. There is no vanilla here to soften anything.
Fragrantica's community ranks the accords sweet first at full weight, then warm spicy, oud, fruity and amber, with smoky and rose underneath. It is rated 4.13 out of 5 there from 285 votes, which is a substantial sample for a 2026 release.
Who Made It
All three Collection Studio fragrances were composed by Jordi Fernández, a senior perfumer at Givaudan and one of the most prolific noses working today, with several hundred fragrances to his name. He is self-taught — unusually at this level, he did not attend ISIPCA — and began at Eurofragrance in Barcelona before Givaudan.
The collection was developed with Givaudan through what BDK describes as a continuous dialogue with the house's own direction, rather than being briefed out and handed back. His work also appears at D'ORSAY, Essential Parfums, BORNTOSTANDOUT and Mind Games, and elsewhere in the BDK range. Oud Paradisio is the leather-and-oud corner of the collection.
Who It's For
For people who like oud and are bored of the reverent treatment of it. The pineapple-and-ice-cream opening is genuinely unusual, and it is the reason to buy this rather than any of the hundred other rose-oud compositions.
It suits wearers who already enjoy fruity ouds and sweet smoky ambers. If you want a traditional, austere oud, this is not it — and if the idea of pineapple over agarwood sounds wrong to you, trust that instinct and try Silver Ceremony instead. Within BDK's range it is considerably sweeter and louder than the main-line Oud Abramad.
Unisex, and genuinely so: the rose pulls one way, the oud and cocoa the other.
When to Wear It
Cold weather. The oud, incense and cocoa all gain from cool air, and the sweetness becomes heavy in heat.
Evening, and occasions where being noticed is the intention — dinners, special occasions, nights out. This is an absolu de parfum and it behaves like one: expect long wear and real presence in the first hours, so apply with a lighter hand than you would an eau de parfum.
About the House
BDK Parfums is a Parisian house founded by David Benoît Kian, whose family has been in perfumery for three generations. The main line — Gris Charnel, Rouge Smoking, Pas Ce Soir, Oud Abramad — built its reputation on compositions that are rich but legible, and it has become one of the more widely collected French niche houses of the last decade.
Collection Studio is the house's couture tier, positioned above the main range and presented in a heavier flacon with a metallic base. The three fragrances are each built around a material — silk for Stellar Silk, sequins for Silver Ceremony, leather and oud for Oud Paradisio. Fragrance Notes
What's the difference between accords and notes?
Accords are the overall scent families a fragrance gives off — its character at a glance. Notes are the individual ingredients you smell as it develops, from the first spritz (top) to the lasting dry-down (base).
