Karine Chevallier

Karine Chevallier is an independent Paris perfumer and the founder of her own studio, Olfactive Design.

A passion for chemistry took her to ISIPCA in 1993. She joined a major fragrance company as a junior perfumer in 1996, trained by Mark Buxton and working in the lineage of her first teacher Jean-François Blayn, himself a disciple of Edmond Roudnitska. After a Master’s in Luxury and a period at Guerlain she ran the Paris arm of a Grasse-based house from 2001, then founded Olfactive Design in 2005 with the support of Michel Roudnitska at Art et Parfum. She has taught perfumery at the École Supérieure du Parfum in Paris since 2014, has recreated the scent of the Chauvet cave, and her London for Gallivant was an Art and Olfaction Awards finalist in 2018.

For D’ORSAY she composed J’ai l’Air de Ce Que Je Suis. J.R. (2019), which became one of the house’s best sellers: clementine and bergamot over a narcissus-and-iris heart, closing on musk and sandalwood. She calls it unisex and almost multi-gender, and it is the gentlest thing in the D’ORSAY range.
