What it smells like

D'ORSAY Tonka Hysteria is an amber-powdery Extrait de Parfum built on iris and tonka bean. It opens brightly, with mandarin and pink pepper giving a sweet-tart sparkle, while olibanum and cinnamon arrive underneath almost immediately: the frankincense brings cool resinous smoke and the cinnamon a warm, dry spice. The opening is lively but already hints at the warmth to come.

The heart is unusually rich in iris. Iris butter and iris resin are two of the most expensive materials in perfumery, produced from orris root after years of drying, and they smell powdery, cool, faintly earthy and expensive. Lily of the valley adds a clean, green floral lift so the powder never becomes stuffy.

The base is where it becomes addictive. Tonka bean gives a soft almond-and-hay sweetness, benzoin adds balsamic warmth, and vanilla rounds everything into something creamy and enveloping. As an extrait concentrated above 30%, Tonka Hysteria wears warm and close, projects steadily for the first hours, and leaves a powdery-sweet trail that lasts through the day.

Who made it

Tonka Hysteria was composed by Jordi Fernández, who also created Rose Blaze for the house. Fernández is known for warm, moreish compositions with clear character, and here he balances two difficult ideas: an expensive iris and a comforting gourmand base.

Released in 2024, it is presented by D'ORSAY as love at first sight, the hidden web of attraction. Mandarin and pink peppercorn light the fuse; iris pallida and tonka open the breach.

When to wear it

Tonka Hysteria is at its best in autumn and winter, when cold air suits its warmth. It works beautifully in the evening, for dinners, date nights and cold-weather days, and it is comforting enough for everyday wear in the colder months.

Because of the concentration, one or two sprays are enough, particularly indoors. In summer it is best kept for cooler evenings.
