Florian Gallo

Florian Gallo is an accomplished contemporary perfumer at dsm-firmenich with a gift for addictive, appetising accords. His work tends to take a recognisable fruit and give it a floral or spiced counterpoint, so the result reads as grown-up and textured rather than simply sweet.

For the South Korean niche house BORNTOSTANDOUT, Florian composed Fig Porn Eau de Parfum and Indecent Cherry Eau de Parfum. Fig Porn opens with juicy fig, pear and a snap of bergamot, then moves to a heart of Turkish rose and peony threaded with dry cedar, a fruity-floral with a woody spine. Indecent Cherry pairs cherry and almond with saffron’s peppery, slightly mineral warmth before strawberry and Bulgarian rose deepen the fruit in the heart.

Fig and cherry are two of the most interesting fruits in modern perfumery: fig brings green, milky and woody facets, while cherry often leans towards almond and liqueur. Wearing these two back to back is an easy way to learn how differently fruit notes can behave on skin.

BORNTOSTANDOUT, founded in Seoul in 2022 by Jun Lim, builds bold, provocative, unapologetically sensual fragrances, and its Extrait Extrême line pushes those ideas to their most concentrated form.
